At the early stage of his ministry Jesus
declared, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to
preach good news to the poor” (Luke 4:18). Jesus was first anointed by the Holy
Spirit. That is why He is called the Messiah, the Christ of the anointed One.
In
the gospel of John 12:1-11 Jesus was anointed in preparation for his death by
Mary the sister of Lazarus: “Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard
and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house
was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.” When Judas raised objection out
of greediness, Jesus said to him, “Let her alone, let her keep it for the day
of my burial. The poor you always have with you, but you do not always have
me.” As rich as our Lord Jesus is, he
did not reject the service of the woman who anointed him. Not even the greed
and jealous of people like Judas could stop him from accepting the woman's
offer. Child of God, the Lord will not reject your offering as he rejected the
offering of Cain. He will surely accept you and it shall be well with you in
Jesus name – Amen!
