A Good Shepherd is a caring shepherd. He does not leave his sheep
unattended. He cannot even travel out without making arrangement for the well-being of his flock. That was exactly what happened before our Lord Jesus
Christ ascended into heaven. He handed his flock to Peter and the rest of the
Apostles. In the gospel of John 21:15-19
Jesus
asked Peter "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said
to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”
A second time he said to him, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” He said to
him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He
said to him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?”...And he said
to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to
him, “Feed my sheep." With this gesture our Lord Jesus Christ proved to
Peter and the people of the world that He is the most caring Shepherd the world
has ever known. He will never abandon or forsake us, his flock. To him be glory
and praise both now and forevermore - Amen!
